Help On Finding A Light-weight Shoe For Playing Tennis?

I’m looking for a tennis shoe that is light on your foot but still provides support. Right now I’m playing with Prince’s T20’s and they feel very clunky and heavy on my feet. suggestions?

  1. The Prince T20’s weigh about 15.5 oz (size 10.5) which is pretty average in terms of shoe weight these days, but it could also be the show construction that makes it feel clunky.
Some of the following shoes are lighter in weight, or feel lighter due to materials and construction: (weights are based on 10.5 shoe size)
Asics Gel Resolution 2: 14.8 oz, low to the ground feel, stable, lots of mesh up top for breathability.
Adidas Barricade 2: 16 oz which is heavier than your T20’s, but it certainly doesn’t feel it; good stability with low to the ground feeling and lots of support.
Adidas ClimaCool Feather IV: 13.8 oz super-light at the sacrifice of some stability; extremely breathable though, nice summer shoe.
Nike Vapor (any variant): variable in weight, usually a bit lighter than your T20s; great stability due to it’s low-to-the-ground construction; wearing them makes me feel light like I can fly around the court; low durability due to soft outsole construction.
Nike Air Max Breathe Free 2: 15.5 oz; good blend of stability, breathability and durability - best all around shoe; doesn’t feel clunky, I really like the “uni-tongue” construction where the tongue of the shoe is connected to the collar, giving a snug, but secure fit.
The best thing to do is to visit your local tennis shop and try on these shoes (if available). Then you can determine which feel best and comfortable to you - be advised though that some shoes do require a break-in period.
    Good luck!

  2. I think the Kswiss Ascendor and the Adidas Barricade II are good lightweight tennis shoes with good support.
