How Do I Serve In Tennis, Changing Between Down The Line And Out Wide Serves?

my serve is very consistent and pretty fast. The only thing i need to work is aiming it where i want. how do i hit in down the line and crosscourt. Where do i toss the ball to hit down the line serve and how do i hold the racket.

  1. the serve should be an unguessable shot in tennis. professionals throw the ball exactly the same but twist there wrist and hips slightly towards the way there gunna hit it at the last second. seen as your probaly not at there standard? you could get away with changing the ball toss to fit different serves. pratice hitting targets and im sure you will get the hang of it. good luck !=)

  2. Both your wide and t serve should have the same toss and grip, so that your serve is consistent and so that your opponent can’t read the serve/tell where its going. A good way to practice is to put cones up in both the spots, and take a basket of balls and just practice for half an hour (be careful though, you don’t want to hurt your shoulder). If you can get a coach to watch you serve and give you tips, or video tape your serve so you can see where to make improvements.

  3. you have to completely relax the hitting arm so it’s floppy. When you hit the serve you should never tense your muscle. The power and accuracy comes from the loose swing from your arm. To aim the serve down the line you have to think that your racquet head is the palm of your hand. Imagine that you are giving the ball a high five, when you do a hi 5 you immediately twist your hand to make complete contact with the other person’s hand, this same princple applies with the serve this is called pronation. If you a right hander the as you come to hit the ball your racquet head looks like its about to chop the ball like an axe but as soon as its just about to make contact rotate your wrist so the racquet meets the ball thats how you hit one down the line.

  4. Why not book a lesson with a local tennis coach and get practical advice. None of these written answers will take into account your current serving style and be able to adapt it as well as a proper trained coach could.
It will depend on whether you want a flat straight service, or put slice and spin it. Try altering your feet position when you’re practising and see if that will achieve what you want.
No - I’m not a coach before you ask! I just love playing and watching tennis.

  5. try using a continental grip and hit at the perfect Sweet Spot of the tennis racket.
A Sweet Spot is an area on the tennis racket whereby you can control all your directions well and can hit with the best spin and force. It lies in the center of the racket.
I know this stuff cos, even though I’m only 14, I am into tennis in my school team.
    HAHA!!!

  6. u should toss d ball 2 ur right side nd always when u want ur serve 2 be d best u should aim it on d center line
nd u should practice a lot nd always take a full swing

  7. I think you just need to practice. That’s the best way. If you watch. say Federer, he tosses the ball the same no matter where he serves.

  8. it takes practice . .pretty hard to explain
